St. Thomas police have charged a man with assaulting another man with a fire extinguisher.

It happened late Friday night, according to Staff Sergeant Russell Yates. Officers were called around 11 p.m. to an apartment on Talbot St. on a report of a fight. When they arrived, a man told them he had been struck with a fire extinguisher, though it was nota clear which part of the victim's body was affected.

The man left the scene with the fire extinguisher, which was the property of the apartment complex. Yates said a 30-year-old man was arrested Saturday and charged with assault with a weapon, mischief and theft under $5,000.
