Man succumbs to injuries following Delhi house fire

Foul play is not suspected after a house fire claimed the life of a 76-year-old man in Delhi.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on November 30 at around 2:30 p.m. the Norfolk County Fire Department arrived at the Crysler Street home to find it fully engulfed. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes.

A 76-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman were able to escape the home but were rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both were then transported to a Hamilton area hospital for further treatment.

On Saturday, the 76-year-old man, Robert Weirmier, was pronounced dead in hospital by attending physicians.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has assisted with the investigation and police said the fire is not considered suspicious.
