Middlesex OPP officer charged with sexual assault

An investigation by the province's police watchdog has led to sexual assault charges against a Middlesex OPP officer.

The Special Investigations Unit says it was contacted by the OPP in June after a woman made complaints of a sexual nature against an officer. According to the SIU, the alleged offences happened between May 28, 2009 and December 31, 2011.

OPP Detective Sergeant Todd Amlin was arrested and charged with four counts of sexual assault. He was released on several conditions, including that he refrain from communicating directly or indirectly with the complainant. Amlin is to appear in court in Orillia in January.

"The matter is now properly before the courts," the SIU said in a statement issued Thursday. "In consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will make no further comment pertaining to this investigation."
