Widespread bomb threats reach Middlesex Centre

Provincial police are investigating a bomb threat in Middlesex Centre that is believed to be linked to similar threats made throughout Canada and the United States.

Several bomb threats were sent via email on Wednesday and targeted businesses and institutions in both countries, demanding a payment in Bitcoin.

The Ontario Provincial Police Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is currently investigating, however, the threats within the messages appear to be unfounded, police said.

OPP officers are investigating a total of six bomb threats within parts of Southwestern Ontario, including one at a small business in Middlesex Centre.

Police are continuing to monitor the situation and are advising Ontario residents to not respond to these demands if a similar message is received.

Anyone with information regarding these threats is urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
