Freezing rain on the way

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement about freezing rain that is expected to hit the London area Tuesday night.

Forecasters say a band of snow will move through the region, bringing 2-5 centimetres of snow. Sometime Tuesday night, that snow will change to freezing rain.

"The freezing rain may last several hours before changing over to rain on Wednesday with the passage of a warm front," Environment Canada said in the statement. "A brief thaw will arrive with temperatures soaring several degrees above freezing."

Forecasters are also anticipating strong winds from the southwest that will bring gusts of 70 to 80 km/h Wednesday.

The special weather statement covers London, Parkhill, Strathroy, as well as Eastern and Western Middlesex Counties.
