SIU called in after woman injured, officer assaulted

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been called to London after an incident that saw a London police officer assaulted.

Police said the officer responded to a home on Topping Lane around 8:40 p.m. Monday to check on the welfare of a woman. According to police, the officer was assaulted during the incident.

The woman was taken to hospital where it was discovered she had an injury, which is why the SIU was called in.

A 52-year-old woman is charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.

The officer wasn't hurt.
