Man charged after making dozens of 911 calls

A London man faces charges after police allege he made 72 calls to 911 in three days.

According to police, the calls were made between January 25 and January 27. None of the calls were in regards to an emergency.

Following an investigation, a 39-year-old London man was charged with mischief under $5,000 and harassing telecommunication.

"The misuse of the emergency number could have potentially endangered the safety of members of the public by reducing the call-takers ability to answer actual emergency calls from London citizens," police said in a statement released Tuesday. "The London Police Service would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that 9-1-1 is for emergency situations only."

The accused is to appear in court on Wednesday.
