Crash sends three teens to hospital

Three teens were seriously hurt while trying to avoid a head-on crash on a rural road southeast of Simcoe.

A white four-door sedan was heading west on Concession 5 in Woodhouse when it was forced to veer to avoid hitting another vehicle as it came over a hill around 8:45 a.m. on Monday. The sedan ended up in the ditch where it hit a tree.

A chunk of wood smashed through the rear window, narrowly missing a passenger in the back seat.

The driver and two passengers, all male teenagers, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Just looking at the debris sitting around here and everything else, they are very lucky to be alive," Constable Ed Sanchuk said from the scene.

Police are looking to speak with the driver of a red Jeep who was in the area at the time of the crash.

Sanchuk is also reminding drivers to slow down.

"We want people to slow down and make sure they are aware of their surrounding at all times, especially on back roads, coming over hills be very cognizant of the fact that there might be people driving down the centre of the road for some unknown reason," said Sanchuk.
