Axe-wielding man threatens residents at St. Thomas apartment

Charges are pending after tenants of a St. Thomas apartment building were threatened by a man with an axe.

St. Thomas police were called to the John Street building in regard to a noise complaint just after 12 a.m. Thursday. Officers determined which unit the noise was coming from, but the man inside was "uncooperative," according to police.

While officers were speaking to other tenants in the hallway the man emerged, armed with an axe, and began making threats before retreating back into his apartment.

Police were eventually able to arrest the man without further incident.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety, police said.
