Charges laid in attempted carjacking

An 18-year-old Mississauga man has been charged in connection with an attempted carjacking over the weekend in west London.

The man was arrested Sunday evening after a 24-year-old man, who was sitting in his vehicle in a plaza at Wonderland Road and Oxford Street, was approached by two men who demanded that he get out. When the 24-year-old refused to get out of the vehicle, one of the other men pulled out a handgun.

The driver remained in his vehicle and the two men took off in opposite directions. The man in the vehicle was not hurt during the incident.

Daeshawn Grant of Mississauga is charged with robbery/assault with intent to steal and attempting to commit a dual procedure offence. He is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on Wednesday.

Police continue to search for the second suspect. He is described as black, between 20-30 years of age, approximately 5’10”, 175 pounds, with a slim build, and black hair.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
