UPDATE: Heavy snow likely for Sunday night

Forecasters are tracking a system that could dump a significant amount of snow on the region.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Sunday in the following areas:

  • London-Middlesex
  • Elgin
  • Woodstock-Tillsonburg-Oxford County
  • Watford-Pinery Park-Eastern Lambton County
The weather agency is watching localised pockets of snow near the west end of Lake Ontario, which may be affected by increasing northeasterly winds. A passing low-pressure system moving through the area has brought moderate to heavy snow this evening and into later Family Day morning.

Snowfall amounts may range from five to eight centimetres tonight, according to Environment Canada. There is also the risk of freezing drizzle late Sunday into Monday.

Drivers are urged to use caution if travel is necessary Sunday night or Monday morning.
