Vacant house fire deemed suspicious

An early morning fire that tore through a vacant home north of Aylmer has been deemed suspicious.

Malahide firefighters and Elgin OPP were called about the residential fire on rural property on Ron McNeil Line between Imperial Road and Newell Road around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The section of Ron McNeil Line was closed for several hours to allow firefighters to safely access the scene.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known, but investigators have determined it is suspicious in nature.

"As such, the Ontario Provincial Police's forensic identification section attended the residence and collected evidentiary information," Constable Adam Crewdson said in short video posted to the OPP West Region's Twitter page.

A damage estimate has not been released.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
