Power outages slow morning commute

It took a little longer to get to work for a lot of Londoners on Wednesday morning.

Widespread power outages hit the city as commuters made their way around London. At one point, up to 25,000 customers were affected. Traffic lights were out at several intersections, forcing drivers to treat them as four-way stops. That led to back-ups on many city streets.

"We still don't know the cause of the outage," said London Hydro spokesperson Nancy Hutton. "That's still under investigation, but it had something to do with the feed that was coming into the city."

Power was restored by 9:30 a.m, but there may be some additional outages later in the afternoon.

"We were able to reroute some of the power to get people back online," Hutton said. "Once we find out the cause of the outage, there may be some more switching that has to be done later in the day, which may cause some short outages."
