Fatal fire blamed on careless smoking

A 53-year-old woman critically hurt in a London apartment fire last week has now died from her injuries.

London firefighters were called to the building at 140 Langarth St. W, west of Wharncliffe Road South around 8:40 a.m. last Wednesday. The fire was contained to one unit in the building. A woman who was inside was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but has since died, London police said Tuesday.

An investigation by police, the London Fire Department, and the Ontario Fire Marshal determined the cause of the fire was careless smoking.
