Man suffers life-threatening injuries in crash near St. Thomas

A 58-year-old man is fighting for his life after a serious crash on Sunset Drive just outside of St. Thomas.

Elgin County OPP said the man was rushed to an area hospital in serious condition after the vehicle he was driving left the road and hit a hydro pole just north of Major Line at around 2:30 a.m. The man's condition was later changed to life-threatening while he was at the hospital.

As a result of the crash, OPP closed Sunset Drive (Highway 4) between Major Line and Highway 3 for hydro pole repairs and so that technical collision investigators can examine the scene. The road reopened several hours later.

OPP said charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
