Another inmate death at EMDC

An investigation is underway after another inmate died at the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre.

London police have confirmed a male inmate died on Sunday, March 31 at the Exeter Road jail. It's not known how the inmate died.

"We’re assisting the coroner with an investigation of the death of a male inmate yesterday afternoon," London police Constable Sandasha Bough said in an email. "It is now a coroner’s investigation."

Sunday's death was the 14th at the EMDC since 2009. While not all of the deaths have been related to drug overdoses, the Ontario government announced in September a plan aimed at stopping drugs from flowing into the facility, while dealing with inmate addiction issues.
