Man in custody after hammer attack

A man has been arrested after another man was attacked with a hammer in St. Thomas.

Police were called early Wednesday morning about an assault that involved a 40-year-old man being attacked with a hammer. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, a suspect was tracked to an apartment on St. Catharine Street by a police dog. A 27-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was arrested and faces charges of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Although police said the motive for the attack isn't known, the suspect and victim do know each other.

Police are still investigating.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
