Easter weekend brings closures and activities

The Easter long weekend is upon us and with it comes several closures and fun activities to keep the little ones entertained.

The bulk of the closures come on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, with only a handful carrying over into Easter Monday. Schools and federal, provincial, and municipal government offices will be closed until Tuesday. Mail delivery will also resume on Tuesday.

Most grocery stores, drug stores, banks, the LCBO, Beer Stores, the Labatt Retail Store downtown., Costco Wholesale, and malls including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place, and Westmount Shopping Centre will close their doors Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Shoppers Drug Mart locations in London at 510 Hamilton Rd., 1224 Commissioners Rd.W, and in Sherwood Forest Mall at 1225 Wonderland Rd. N will be open Good Friday and Easter Sunday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

All London Public Library branches will be closed Friday, Sunday, and Monday, but are open on Saturday.

The LTC will be running on a Sunday schedule on Good Friday.

Storybook Gardens is holding an Easter egg hunt on Good Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids can search for different coloured eggs throughout the park for prizes and meet the Easter bunny. Cost $8 per person.

The National Service Dogs’ Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs will be held at the Plunkett Estate on Elviage Drive on Good Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thousands of plastic eggs filled with dog treats will be hidden for the hounds.

Royal View Church at 218 Clarke Rd., in partnership with the East London Optimist Club, is holding its annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The free event includes a family BBQ, face painting, crafts, and a petting zoo.

The German Canadian Club at 1 Cove Rd. is offering an Easter egg hunt Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The two-hour event also includes crafts for the kids. The cost is $3.

There will be an Easter egg hunt in support of the Forest Edge Community Pool at 427 Village Green Ave. on Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m. The cost ranges from $5 to $10.

The Idlewyld Inn at 36 Grand Ave. is hosting a free Easter egg hunt Easter Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
