Sleeping driver leads to fentanyl bust

Police in St. Thomas say they found purple fentanyl, a potentially deadly opioid, in a vehicle that had a man passed out behind the wheel.

St. Thomas police were called about a man who was sleeping at the steering wheel of a pickup truck in the intersection of Talbot Street and Ross Street around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday. Officers arrived on scene and alleged the man was under the influence of drugs. An unspecified quantity of purple fentanyl was found in the centre console of the pickup.

A 31-year-old London man is charged with possession of drugs and has received a three-day licence suspension.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
