OPP blitz takes eight trucks off the road

Provincial police pulled eight commercial vehicles off the road due to safety violations during a one-day enforcement blitz in Thames Centre.

Middlesex OPP and the Ministry of Transportation conducted the traffic safety enforcement initiative Tuesday. A total of 23 commercial vehicles were stopped, with inspections resulting in eight being taken out of service.

Two dozen highway traffic act offences were also issued.

The initiative aims to increase public safety, improve commercial vehicle safety, and reduce the number of potential incidents involving commercial vehicles, police said.

Commercial vehicles are specifically inspected to ensure they meet equipment safety standards and operators and owners qualifications.
