Construction closes York and Richmond intersection

Drivers in the downtown will now have a new traffic headache to navigate.

The intersection of York Street and Richmond Street will close as of Tuesday in all directions to both drivers and cyclists for a construction project.

The road work is to replace old sewer and water lines on York Street, according to the city.

Traffic approaching from the north, south, and east will all be affected. Southbound traffic on Richmond Street will be detoured at King Street, while northbound vehicles will be detoured at Horton Street.

Vehicles from the west of the intersection are already being detoured at Talbot Street.

London transit is also rerouting buses around the work. Transit Routes 4, 6, 15/21 and 26 are slated to be detoured.

For those trying to get to the York Street Via Rail station, access will be available from the east on Wellington Street and from the north from Clarence Street.

Pedestrians will still be able to cross the intersection as usual during the construction.

Signs posted near the intersection indicate the road work is expected to continue until September.
