ATV driver nailed for impaired

An ATV driver is facing more than half a dozen charges after allegedly taking the machine for a ride while drunk.

Elgin OPP received a call about an ATV being driven dangerously on Union Road around 6:45 p.m. Monday.

Officers tried to stop the ATV on Mill Road and Talbot Line shortly after, but it kept going. Police didn't give chase out of concern for public safety.

The ATV was eventually stopped on Second Line and the driver was arrested without incident.

A 35-year-old Orford man is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired driving, over 80 milligrams of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle, and flight from police.

He also is charged with four additional highway traffic act offences including operating an ATV without a helmet, a licence plate or insurance.
