Fentanyl seized in Simcoe drug bust

Four people are facing drug trafficking charges after Norfolk OPP raided a Simcoe home last week, seizing cocaine and the deadly opioid fentanyl.

Officers searched the home on Kent Street South last Thursday, turning up an undisclosed quantity of the illicit drugs, as well as some cash.

Four people aged 18, 23, 25, and 65, from Norfolk County, Etobicoke, Barrie, and East York, were arrested without incident. They are now charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

The 18-year-old, the 23-year-old, and the 25-year-old are additionally charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, while the 65-year-old also faces a charge of possession of methadone.

"Our community street crimes unit has been very effective with proactive illicit drug investigations," said OPP Inspector Joseph Varga. "This is yet another example that highlights the need for the police and the community to work in partnership to resolve crime."
