Five kids, two adults injured in crash

A Windsor man has been charged after a minivan went off the road and hit a hydro pole in Elgin County, sending seven people, including a baby, to hospital.

The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews were called to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Vienna Line and Imperial Road around 7:30 a.m. Monday. According to police, the minivan left the road, went into a ditch, and then hit the hydro pole.

"The van had a total of seven passengers, five children ranging in ages of two months to eight years old and two adults," police said in a statement issued Monday afternoon. "All seven were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious. All seven passengers are reported in stable condition."

The 32-year-old driver of the minivan, who is from Windsor, has been charged with careless driving.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
