Two hurt in south London house fire

Two people, including a firefighter, were hurt after a barbecue sparked a house fire in south London.

Fire crews were called to the home at 30 Parkside Cres. around 2:20 p.m. on Monday. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with heavy smoke and flames from the roof of the single-storey home.

After an aggressive attack, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze. A firefighter and a civilian were treated for minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation determined a barbecue ignited the back deck with fire quickly spreading up the rear wall of the home and into the attic.

The intense heat melted the siding of a neighbouring home.

Damage is estimated at more than $400,000.
