Thousands of apples spilled on Simcoe street

That's one way to make applesauce.

Provincial police are investigating after roughly 2,000 pounds of apples spilled onto a Simcoe street on Wednesday.

The produce came tumbling off of a transport truck and scattered across Queensway East just before 8:15 a.m. Vehicles travelling through the area ground dozens of the apples into the pavement before a clean-up crew arrived on scene.

Norfolk OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk said it was the first time he had seen a load of apples dumped on a roadway.

"We are conducting an investigation into why this happened. Charges are pending," said Sanchuk.

In light of the incident, police are reminding drivers to always ensure their loads are secure before heading out.
