Charges laid in Blackfriars crash

London police are alleging that a crash that caused significant damage to a home and a business in the Blackfriars area was the result of a man's decision to drive while impaired.

The crash happened early Sunday morning and, according to police, saw a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed slam into two hydro poles, a house, and a cafe in the area of Blackfriars Street and Wilson Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and taken to Victoria Hospital where he was assessed and later released into police custody.

Tyrease Phouttharath, 20, of London, is charged with impaired driving. He is to appear in court on November 20.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Society Cafe said it will be closed "for the foreseeable future."
