Body pulled from Lake Erie in Longpoint

Police are investigating after a body was recovered from Lake Erie near Longpoint.

The Ontario Provincial Police in Norfolk County said officers were called to the Longpoint area on Friday at around 8:47 a.m., after a male was reported missing by his friends who had stayed overnight at a cottage on a nearby island.

The OPP marine unit, aerial patrol and underwater search and rescue teams attended the scene to search for the missing male throughout the day.

Police said the body of a male was recovered from the lake at around 7:29 p.m. and taken to shore where he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the male is not being released until next of kin have been notified. An autopsy will be conducted in Hamilton, police said.

Police said the investigation is in its early stages and no further information has been released at this time.
