Flying wheel hits pickup, transport on 401

Provincial police are trying to track down a tractor trailer that lost a wheel that went on to hit two vehicles on Highway 401 west of London.

The commercial vehicle was in the westbound lanes of the highway between Colonel Talbot and Union Road when the tire came flying off around 9:45 p.m. on Thursday. The wheel bounced over the median into the eastbound lanes, hitting a pickup truck and a transport truck.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

Elgin OPP seized the tire as part of the investigation. They are working to find the driver of the tractor trailer the wheel detached from.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
