Thief makes off with store employee's purse, vehicle

St. Thomas police are looking for a suspect who stole a downtown store employee's vehicle and crashed it into a tree.

A man walked into the downtown business and struck up a conversation with the employee around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. When the worker went to leave for the day, she noticed her purse, which contained the keys to her vehicle, had been stolen.

The employee then discovered her vehicle had been stolen, police said.

The stolen vehicle was abandoned after it hit a tree in Central Elgin.

Police are searching for a man described as Caucasian, tall, skinny, and unshaven. He is also missing a number of front teeth. He last seen wearing a blue jacket and darker jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. Thomas police.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
