Homemade explosives seized in Woodstock

Charges have been laid against a Woodstock man accused of making homemade pipe bombs.

Woodstock police received information about a man inside a home on Winniett Street with suspicious materials commonly used for crafting explosives around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Officers evacuated several homes on the street as a precaution before searching the suspect home.

A man was arrested on Dover Street in relation to the investigation a few hours later. Police also searched and removed several items from a second Woodstock home and a vehicle in Ingersoll.

A 38-year-old unidentified Woodstock man is now charged with five offences including possession of an explosive device, possession of an explosive substance, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Those evacuated from homes on Winniett Street have since been allowed to return to their residences.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
