Fire causes $100K damage to Oakridge home

Working smoke alarms are being credited with helping an Oakridge family escape an overnight fire without injury.

Firefighters were called to the two-storey home at 30 Colonial Cres. around 3:40 a.m. on Friday.

When they arrived on scene, the three adults who share the home were safely outside. Fire officials have said working smoke alarms were key in notifying residents earlier enough that they were able to get out unharmed.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined. A fire inspector was on scene Friday morning.

Damage is estimated at more than $100,000.
