Red-hot Knights exterminate Sting in Sarnia (GALLERY)

Knights defenceman Ryan Merkley had a goal and two assists to lead London to a 5-2 win in Sarnia Saturday afternoon.

London jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first with goals from Billy Moskal and Alec Regula.

The Sting cut the lead in half early in the second, but the Knights responded about three minutes later with two goals in a span of just 26 seconds to make it 4-1.

Sting captain Ryan McGregor brought his team back within two goals 46 seconds into the third, but that’s as close as they would get — Regula capped-off the London win with his second goal of the game with under two minutes to play.

London has now won eight straight and 13 of their past 14 games to move ahead of the Kitchener Rangers for top spot in the OHL's Western Conference.

Knights forward Connor McMichael had three assists and currently sits third in the OHL scoring race with 83 points, two points back of Ottawa's Marco Rossi for the league lead.

The Knights outshot the Sting 47-23 and have now beaten Sarnia in three of their four head-to-head matchups this season — the two sides will faceoff in London March 6 before wrapping up their regular seasons March 21 in Sarnia.

The Knights are in Niagara Tuesday, the Sting next host Windsor Friday night.
