Assault and robbery lead to charges

Two London men face charges after an armed robbery over the weekend.

London police said two men agreed to meet with two other people in a parking lot on Southdale Road East on Sunday afternoon. The two men got into the backseat of a car and, according to police, one pulled out what was believed to be a handgun covered in a cloth.

A man and woman in the car were robbed of some of their belongings and the man was hit with an expandable baton. His injuries were minor, police said.

"Two other citizens intervened and police were contacted. One man was arrested immediately, while a second was arrested shortly after. A replica firearm was later recovered," police said in a news release issued Wednesday.

Haidar Salah, 18, of London is charged with armed robbery, pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Yassin Debeh, 18, of London is charged with armed robbery, assault with a weapon, and mischief under $5,000.
