Alleged impaired driver rear-ends vehicle twice

A 31-year-old Sparta man is facing impaired driving charges after a vehicle was rear-ended not once, but twice while at a stop sign.

The vehicle was stopped at the intersection of Axford Parkway and Fairview Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday when another vehicle hit it from behind. Witnesses told St. Thomas police the vehicle then reversed slightly before pulling forward and crashing into the back of the stopped vehicle a second time.

No one was hurt in the collision.

The driver was taken into custody without incident after failing a sobriety test at the scene, police said.

The 31-year-old Sparta man is charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. His vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
