Weather a factor in head-on crash on 401

A blast of snowy weather Sunday played a role in a head-on collision that saw a vehicle cross the centre median on Highway 401 west of London.

The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police were called to the eastbound lanes of the highway near Mill Road around 7:15 p.m. Sunday. According to police, a four-door vehicle heading west on the highway went out of control and crossed the median colliding head-on with an eastbound minivan.

The driver of the westbound vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and is currently in fair condition in hospital. The minivan driver wasn't hurt.

The collision forced the closure of the highway in both directions for a brief period.

Police are still investigating.
