River discolouration no cause for concern

A fluorescent green tinge to the waters of the Thames River is nothing to be concerned about, according to city officials.

A contractor working for the City of London released water containing an environmentally-friendly dye into the river earlier this week in order to track water flows. Citizens began calling the city about the green discolouration as it passed through the south branch of the river, near the Meadowlilly Bridge on Wednesday.

"This dye is designed to be safe for the environment. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has been notified of the report," the city said in a statement.
