A man who was wanted on several outstanding warrants has now been charged with posting ads in London and Windsor to recruit sex workers.
The London Police Service said detectives with the Human Trafficking Unit spotted ads posted online in early February that were seeking women between 18 and 35 years of age in the London and Windsor regions. The ads promised earnings between $600 and $1,200 a day with no experience necessary.
Police determined, through text message conversations with the person who posted the ad, that the job was for "escort" work.
“We are concerned that there may be others who responded to these postings and have ended up involved in doing sex work for a third party as a result,” said Detective Cam Halliday of the Human Trafficking Unit. “It is illegal for someone to sell the sexual services of another person. It is a situation that can often lead to exploitation and human trafficking.”
Edward Duane Garinger, 46, of London has been charged with procurement for sexual services. He is also facing separate charges after being arrested on five outstanding warrants from different provinces across Canada. He remains in custody awaiting a future court date.
