Damaged gas main forces partial downtown evacuation

Several buildings near Richmond Row had to be evacuated after a gas leak on Thursday.

Police, fire crews, and EMS were called to Richmond Street and Albert Street late Thursday morning after a gas main was damaged. London police said an LTC bus was brought to the scene to assist those who had to leave the buildings.

Crews from Enbridge Gas were also called to the area to help seal the leak.

Around 1 p.m., the fire department said people were being allowed to return to their homes.
