18-year-old charged in variety store armed robbery

Charges have been laid against an 18-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store in east London last week.

London police say a man walked into the Circle K variety store at 75 Admiral Dr. at Trafalgar Street around 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, pulled a gun and demanded cash and cigarettes from the clerk. The man was given the items and took off from the store in a vehicle.

The clerk was not physically hurt during the encounter.

The investigation led police to search a home on Culver Drive on Friday. Officers found a replica gun and some of the stolen items. A suspect was arrested without incident.

An 18-year-old man is now charged with armed robbery, pointing a firearm, use of a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence, disguise with intent, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. He was scheduled to appear in London court on Monday.
