Man charged in downtown sexual assault

A 35-year-old London man is facing charges after a woman walking downtown was sexually assaulted last week.

The woman was heading west along Queens Avenue when she was approached by a man around 6:20 p.m. last Thursday. The man proceeded to sexually assault the woman, London police said.

The woman, who was not physically hurt, called police and officers arrested a suspect roughly 10 minutes after the assault.

Cameron Sinclair Stevens, 35, of London, is charged with sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charge on Monday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
