The London Health Sciences Foundation's efforts to support the front-line workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic have received a big shot in the arm.
Cargill has announced a $60,000 donation to the foundation. The agriculture business, which has a plant in London, is giving the money to the foundation's COVID-19 Response Fund.
“In London, we are working with our nonprofit partners, like the London Health Sciences Foundation, to ensure everyone in our community has the resources they need during this unprecedented time,” said Derek Hill, General Manager of Cargill Primary Poultry. “We are inspired by the medical professionals, first responders, workers and farmers in London who are making sure our essential needs are met.”
According to Cargill, some of its employees are also sewing and selling homemade masks. The proceeds have been donated to the LHSC, with Cargill matching staff donations.
“Thank you for this generous donation which will help support the front-line heroes at London Health Sciences Centre,” said John MacFarlane, London Health Sciences Foundation, President and CEO. “This generosity is another example of the overwhelming support we have seen throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit Cargill hard. Its meat processing plant in Alberta has been hit with an outbreak that has been linked to three deaths and more than a thousand confirmed cases.
