Fanshawe raises $400K for financially strapped students

An emergency fund setup to help Fanshawe College students struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic has raised $400,000.

More than 180 donors throughout the community kicked in more than $100,000. That was matched by both the college's alumni association and student union to bring the total raised to the $400,000 mark.

“We know that many students will face continued financial hardship because of the effects of COVID-19,” Gillian Sneddon, executive director of advancement and alumni at Fanshawe, said in a statement. “The support of our community will play a significant role in helping students pursue post-secondary education, and we are so grateful for their generosity.”

Fanshawe launched the emergency student fund in the wake of the global outbreak of the virus. The donated money will be used to help support returning and future students at the college through financial assistance programs.

Since last month, 3,000 students have already been provided a financial boost through the emergency fund.
