Firefighters rescue person from sixth-floor balcony

One person had to be rescued from a sixth-floor balcony after a fire broke out in a London apartment building.

The London Fire Department first reported the apartment fire on Highland Avenue at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly and bring it under control. The smoke was also contained on the sixth floor and crews ventilated the building.

While some apartment units were evacuated, other residents sheltered in place while firefighters were at the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

A fire investigator has attended the scene to determine the cause. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
