Speeder charged after gun, meth found in vehicle

Three people are facing charges after provincial police nabbed a driver doing 100 km/h over the speed limit with a handgun and drugs in the vehicle.

An officer with the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police spotted a speeding vehicle on Highway 2 in Thames Centre just before 11 p.m. on Saturday. According to police, the vehicle was going 186 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The vehicle was pulled over and the officer determined that the driver was impaired.

During the traffic stop, police saw a loaded handgun and a quantity of drugs in the vehicle. The driver and two passengers were arrested.

A 27-year-old London man is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, drunk driving, being in a vehicle with a firearm, and racing.

A 20-year-old London man and a youth are each charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and being in a vehicle with a firearm.

"The OPP will continue to investigate those who put our communities at risk and this serious example contains a mixture of speed, alcohol, drugs and a loaded weapon. Our officers are dedicated to public safety and work hard to protect the communities we call home," police said in a news release issued Monday.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
