Police looking for arson suspect

London police are asking for the public's help as they try to find a man accused of setting a fire at an abandoned apartment building.

Police and fire crews were called to the building on Adelaide Street near Nelson Street around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

"Upon arrival, officers evacuated the surrounding area, as there was a working fire at the rear of an abandoned building," police said in a news release issued Tuesday. "The fire was extinguished by members of the London Fire Department and no one was located inside."

Investigators determined the fire had been deliberately set. Shawn Matthew Eggett, 36, of London is now wanted by way of an arrest warrant on charges of arson with disregard for human life and two counts of arson causing damage to property.

Anyone who knows where he might be is asked to call London police at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com.
