St. Thomas man arrested for 2017 assault of a baby

A St. Thomas man wanted for the 2017 assault on his seven-week-old baby has been arrested.

London police were dealing with the 27-year-old man on an unrelated matter on Monday afternoon when they discovered there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The warrant was issued in July 2017 after the 7-week-old was rushed to hospital with significant injuries. At the time, police searched the south-end home of the infant's parents seizing items "pertaining to the investigation."

The then-24-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm, failure to provide the necessities of life, and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. However, the man took off from the city prior to his arrest, police said.

He was arrested without incident by London police and is now back in St. Thomas where he is scheduled to make a court appearance.
