Man attacked by stranger while mowing lawn

Charges have been laid against a 39-year-old St. Thomas man after a random attack on a homeowner who was cutting his front lawn.

The 59-year-old man was doing some yard work around 8 p.m. Thursday when another man approached him from behind and began hitting him with a wooden stake. Death threats were also made against the 59-year-old before he was able to escape to a neighbour's house and call 911. The man suffered injuries to his arms and side.

A suspect was arrested by police a short distance away from where the attack took place.

Allen Slauenwhite, 39, of St. Thomas is charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death, and breach of release conditions.

Police have said the victim and the accused did not know each other and the attack was unprovoked.
