Police make arrest in Port Stanley fishing vessel fire

Provincial police in Elgin County are investigating an arson involving a commercial fishing boat fire in Port Stanley.

It happened on Saturday evening around 11:45 p.m. when police received a report that a vessel was on fire in the harbour. Upon arrival, officers found the commercial fishing vessel engulfed in flames.

Central Elgin Fire attended the scene and was able to extinguish the blaze.

No injuries were reported and current damage is estimated at approximately $750,000. The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office is assisting in the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the fire. He remains in police custody.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking that anyone with information on the fire or who may have seen any suspicious activity call OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
