Charges laid after man spat on in front of police

A 43-year-old London man is facing assault and weapons charges after a dispute ended with a person being spat on in front of police officers.

Police were called to a property on William Street after a man refused to leave around 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday. The man left the area on a bicycle before officers arrived, only to return a few minutes later. As officers approached the man he rode his bike passed the property and allegedly spat on the individual who had asked him to leave.

The victim was not physically hurt.

The man was quickly arrested. Police seized a black BB gun and a prohibited knife.

Assault, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, and failure to comply with release order charges were laid against the man. He is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on November 18.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
